Inspired by the true masters of Nordic pagan black metal, longtime friends Fritz Petersen and Tim Wicklund formed Ifing in 2010. The band's name is taken from the great river in Norse mythology which separates the realms of the gods and giants. Based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, the duo have forged their sound into an atmospheric, elegant form of folk-inspired black metal in the grandiose tradition of Bathory, Windir, Summoning, Ulver, and Moonsorrow. The resulting debut recording, 'Against The Weald' is dense with organic layers of synth, acoustics, blasting drums, and spacious hymns.
