The first release from the Primitive Substance collective, 'Shoeprints' is an acoustic-based solo album by New Jersey singer-songwriter Brad Kleiman. Produced by former Liquid Liquid member Dennis Young - in his first work as a producer - this is a stark collection of sad love songs and gloomy meditations on time. The occasional glimmers of light appear in the forms of longing and hauntingly pretty melodies, but the overwhelming mood is downcast and alone. This comes from Young's intentionally sparse production, focusing on Brad's reverb-heavy vocals and understated guitar playing.
